Using these basic dimensions, the omni-wheel was created in AutoCAD. The drawing on the left is that of the omni-wheel frame. The drawing on the right is that of the wheels that are secured in the omni-wheel. To make the omni-wheel, the parts are milled out using CamBam to make the tool paths.The image below shows the tool paths that were used. Then a piece of piano wire with length 10.25 in was reshaped into a circle. The smaller wheels were then put on the wire and divided into each of their groves. The piano wire was jammed into a groove on the omni-wheel frame so that it would not move. Another omni-wheel frame was then glued on top of the frame with the wheels attached. The holes in the omni-wheels were matched up by using a wooden dowel rod as a guide. |
